Pixgan — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-15
The Pixgan app runs entirely on your device and collects nothing — your photos never leave your phone. The only personal information we ever receive is what you choose to type into the tester sign-up form on our website. We never sell your data, show no ads, and use no tracking.
Two parts, two very different data practices
Pixgan has two parts, and this policy covers both:
- The app (on your phone) — processes your photos entirely on your device, with no internet access. It collects nothing.
- The website (pixgan.com) — has an optional tester sign-up form. If you fill it in, we receive the details you submit. That is the only place Pixgan collects personal information.
The Pixgan app
- No account, no internet permission, no servers. The app has no network access — it is technically unable to send your photos or any other data anywhere.
- Photos you choose. To compress individual photos, the app reads only the photos you pick through Android's system photo picker. If you instead choose to compress whole folders (see below), the app reads the photos in the folders you select — and only with your permission. Either way, your photos are read on your device only and are never uploaded.
- On-device AI — and only your own photos. Compression and AI restoration (super-resolution) run with Pixgan's own models, on your device. The models are pre-trained and built into the app; your photos are never used to train, improve, or develop our AI. There is no third-party AI and no cloud AI: your photos are never sent to any AI service or model provider. Pixgan performs no facial recognition and no biometric identification — the AI only reconstructs the photo you chose to compress; it is never used to analyse, profile, or identify people. Images are processed on the device and are never uploaded.
- What is stored, and where. Compressed copies are kept in the app's private storage; when you restore a photo, the full-resolution image is saved to your device Gallery. All of it stays on your device, you can delete any of it at any time, and the app never deletes or alters your original photos on its own.
- Optional photo access (opt-in). Some features ask for Android's photo permission, and only when you start them: (a) Delete originals — to find device originals that match your compressed copies (matched on the device by file name and size), with deletion happening only through Android's own system confirmation that lists every photo first; and (b) Compress folders — to list your photo folders (with their photo counts) and read the photos in the folders you choose to compress. The permission is used for nothing else, nothing is uploaded, and you can revoke it any time in system settings.
- Background compression & notifications. A batch compression you start may continue in the background so it can finish while your screen is off. While it runs, Android shows a local progress notification (so you can see progress, pause, or cancel). This is purely on-device status: Pixgan sends no push notifications, no marketing, and no alerts from any server — there is no server.
- Because nothing leaves the app, we hold no personal data about your use of the app on any server.
Permissions, in plain language
- Photos (
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES) — opt-in, requested only when you start "Delete originals" or "Compress folders"; lets the app find and read the photos you choose. Revocable any time.
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — requested only when you start a background batch, to show its progress; never used for marketing or push.
- Foreground service (
FOREGROUND_SERVICE) — lets a batch you started keep running to completion with the screen off.
- Scheduling housekeeping (library-added). The Android scheduling library Pixgan uses for background batches (WorkManager) automatically adds
WAKE_LOCK (finish a batch reliably), RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED (re-schedule the optional auto-shrink after a reboot), and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE (a scheduling capability Pixgan does not use — the app has no network access). None of these read your data or transmit anything.
- No internet permission. Pixgan has no
INTERNET permission and no network code; it cannot upload your photos or any other data, by design.
The Pixgan website (pixgan.com)
If you sign up to be a tester, we collect and store:
- The email address and name you enter.
- The date and time of your sign-up and the version of these terms you accepted, so we can show that you consented.
- Your IP address at the moment of sign-up, recorded automatically by our hosting provider for security, abuse-prevention, and as part of the consent record.
Why we collect it: solely to invite you to the private test on Google Play and to keep a record that you agreed to these terms. The lawful basis is your consent.
What we do NOT do: we send no marketing emails or spam, show no ads, build no profiles, run no analytics or tracking cookies, and never sell or share your information with third parties for their own use.
Where it is stored: in a database operated by our hosting provider (Cloudflare). It may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union.
How long we keep it: for as long as the private test is active. We delete it on request, or when the test ends.
